If you think you or someone else has caught a fish that may be a state record, here's what to do:

  1. don' t clean or freeze the fish.
  2. keep the fish cool preferably on ice.
  3. get the fish weighed as soon as possible on a certified scale (found in grocery, hardware stores, etc.) and witnessed by an observer.
  4. contact the nearest DNR office to get the fish species positively identified and to find out whether the fish is a state record.

For a complete list of Wisconsin's record fish, contact any DNR office or write to or call: WDNR, Bureau of Fisheries and Habitat Protection, P.O. Box 7921, Madison, WI 53707, (608) 267-9426.
