FIREWISE program looking for volunteers 3360 County Highway N
TO THE PROPERTY OWNERS OF THE TOWN OF We are looking for twenty to thirty Volunteers In December of 2005, the Towns of Drummond and Barnes adopted a Wildfire protection plan. This provides a plan on mitigating damages to homes and other property by fire. Part of this program provides for a FIREWISE protection plan for your home or cabin. In response to the plan and in accordance with the guideline the Barnes Fire Department along with the Wisconsin Department of Natural resources, we would like to conduct a free FIREWISE inspection of your home or cabin. The process would include the inspection to determine the amount of green space between your home and the woods area. This green space is also known as the “defensible” area of your home in which a Fire Department can defend your home against a Wild Fire. We would then provide the home owner, if requested, with the man power to clear away brush, trees and limbs from the driveway and yard to make the home defensible against a Wildland Fire. This does not mean you have to cut your trees down around your house, we make it defensible. If the homeowner wishes, the brush or trees would be either removed from the property or piled up in an area until winter time, when it would be burned. This is all done at no cost to you, the home or cabin owner. If you wish to make a donation you may. Please contact me if you wish to discuss this further or would like to schedule a no obligation FIREWISE inspection of your property. Or you can contact Elaine or Martin also at their numbers listed below. Thomas M.
