F. Future Study Recommendations
The survey team generated a great deal of data and it is their hope that this data will be utilized in a meaningful manner to rectify EWM on Tomahawk and Sandbar Lakes and continue vigilance to protect all other lakes in the Barnes, Highland and Gordon areas. Therefore the following recommendations are suggested: - Consider, as previously described, formation of an "Environmental/Ecology Action Team to address the EWM situation and other future environmental problems. The Ad Hoc Committee or some of its members should be part of this follow-up action team.
- Continue lake surveys, perhaps on a rotational basis, to monitor aquatic plant changes.
- Work closely with the DNR and Frank Koshere as a consultant to formulate a plan for the area lakes.
- Utilize the Aquatic Plant Management In Wisconsin (4/25/05 or as updated) guide closely to follow appropriate protocol.
- Apply for a DNR follow-up grant to treat Tomahawk and Sandbar Lakes in accordance with the wishes of landowners and the rest of the community.
- Consider using the two infested lakes as a DNR study area for EWM treatment. A wonderful experimental situation exists because the two small lakes are without inlet/outlet and are in close proximity.
- Set goals and timelines as soon as possible to insure grant consideration as soon as possible.
