VII. Barnes EWM Project A Three Part Project

The Barnes EWM Project focused efforts around three goals: 1 - contain existing EWM populations preventing spread; 2 inform and educate the community and public about the EWM situation; 3 survey and inventory area lakes for aquatic plants with an emphasis on EWM.

In order to meet those goals, three separate projects were proposed: 1 the aquatic invasive species program Clean Boats, Clean Waters; 2 - an Information and Education element; and 3 an aquatic plant survey of 27 lakes in the Barnes/Eau Claire Lakes area. (Seven of the lakes were located, all or part, in Douglas County.)

The project plan was developed by members of the Ad Hoc Committee and the AIS Grant application (form 8700-283) delivered to Dave Blumer WDNR Spooner on February 1, 2005. (See Appendic 8)

Each of these three parts of the project is discussed in the following pages with: a - a general discussion of the tasks; b - how the project met the goals identified in the grant proposal; c - a discussion of the highlights of the project; and d - recommendations on improving the project.
